This past Saturday September 24th 2016, history was made at US Cellular Field! Chance the Rapper sold out the stadium by putting together his own music festival, Magnificent Coloring Day. The line up was amazing and very diverse. The show started off with Francis and the Lights then onto Lil Uzi Vert, Tyler the Creator, surprise guest Kanye West, then John Legend, ColleGrove (2 Chainz and Lil Wayne), Alicia Keys, Chance the Rapper, and it ended with Skrillex. Note that the poster says that Young Thug was suppose to perform also, but he showed up late so he was bumped and didn’t get to perform.
Yo when Kanye popped out, everyone in the stadium lost their minds! They literally rushed the stage and ran through the stadium as soon as they saw him hit the stage. Kids hopped the fence onto the grounds just to get up close and personal. He came out to Father Stretch My Hands, then went on to do some more hits off Pablo, other albums and brought it back to the classics like All Falls Down, and Can’t Tell Me Nothing. If you were there you definitely felt the energy in the stadium once Kanye got on. He closed out his set with with Chance as the did Ultralight Beam.
My two personal favorite acts were probably Lil Uzi Vert and ColleGrove (2 Chainz and Lil Wayne). Lil Uzi Vert has hits, so he kicked off his set with like 5 hits in a row. I guess maybe I liked his set so much because I am currently listening to him right now.
ColleGrove thoooo, they snapped! Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz went back and forth meaning each doing one song each. They did all of their hits! The stadium erupted when Lil Wayne did A Milli. Super dope set by them.
Like I said before the festival had a diverse line up. Alicia Keys perfumed and in my opinion, killed it! I didn’t realize she had that many hits. The day after I actually went on spotify and tried to find all her hits.
Tyler did his thing, I didn’t get to check his set out because we we’re working the merch booth, but you know he always kills it.
What can I say about John Legend…well he did his thing also, and I am sorry to say that I don’t really listen to him like that but he has some hits also.
When chance got on he got the crowd going with some of his classics. Yea I said classics, stuff off 10 Day and Acid Rap. The crowd went nuts when he did Smoke again and Favorite song. Not gonna lie, I was a super happy he did those songs. His show has changed so much since he first started, but that is just the progression in his career. It was very entertaining and Carlos added another dimension to his show IMO. I am super proud and Chance and excited to see him take his career to the next level if there is another level, and I can’t wait for next years line up. I am hopping that he does the festival every year, fingers crossed!
